DFA Goldman Sachs Event Recap

Drexel Finance Association, Uncategorized 0 Comment »

Last night, December 1, the Drexel Finance Association (DFA) hosted an event with Goldman Sachs Private Wealth Management – Philadelphia.

Three Drexel alumni who now work in the office full-time provided a detailed overview of the wealth management industry, in general. Each speaker discussed his experiences at Drexel and how that transpired to a career at Goldman Sachs.

Students were also able to ask questions and network with the speakers following their initial presentation.

It is also worth noting that prior to the DFA event with Goldman Sachs Private Wealth Management, Undergradaute Career Services hosted an information session regarding Goldman’s summer analyst program.

Current Goldman Sachs employee (and Drexel alum), Greg Gaffney, served as the keynote speaker for the evening. He offered valuable insight to students interested in pursuing a career in finance and was on campus to interview qualified applicants for the company’s summer analyst program.

Overall, the evening was a tremendous success and the DFA would like to thank everyone that came out the either (or both) events last night.

This concludes the DFA’s event schedule for Fall Term and we look forward to seeing you at our first general body meeting of Winter Term on a date TBD.

Also, keep an eye out for the DFA’s quarterly newsletter The Conference Call, which will be posted on LeBowTicker within the next few weeks.

Have a safe and happy holiday from the Drexel Finance Association!

DFA Event Recap: SFSP

Drexel Finance Association, Uncategorized 0 Comment »

Last evening, November 10, the Drexel Finance Association (DFA) held its second event of the fall term, featuring senior members of the Society of Financial Service Professionals (SFSP).

Providing an in depth discussion of how they went from “books to briefcase,” the three panelists, Michael Fellmeth, Stephanie Walsh, and Frank Files, all shared unique stories of how they found their true calling in the finance industry.

Fellmeth and Walsh are both chartered life underwriters as well as chartered financial consultants, meaning they ensure the protection of their clients’ assets through individualized financial products.

Files, a certified financial planner, touched upon his atypical journey into the world of finance, which began as a biochemistry major at the University of Pittsburgh. However, Files is now Senior Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager at the Haverford Trust Company. In that position he routinely makes calculated investment decisions, on behalf of his clients, based on internal and external equity research, among other considerations.

All three panelists vehemently expressed the importance of networking as a means of breaking into the finance industry and even offered students assistance in their own job searches.

The evening concluded with a brief question and answer period followed by a networking session.

The Drexel Finance Association would kindly like to thank our panelists as well as all of the students that came out to the event.

We look forward to seeing you at our NEWLY added 2ND GENERAL BODY MEETING of the fall term, scheduled for Monday November 30, time and location TBD!
