Beta Alpha Psi will be hosting a VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) kickoff meeting that will discuss guidelines for participating in the volunteer tax preparation program. The meeting will follow a tax workshop featuring a panel of federal and state and local tax professionals from Grant Thornton, who will address student concerns about taxes and tax planning.

 Learn about career opportunities at CIGNA through this interactive panel featuring Drexel alumni. Information will be provided regarding the facet of employment opportunities within the company including underwriting, accounting, finance, and management information systems. The LeBow College of Business and Beta Alpha Psi will be hosting a résumé writing workshop and networking session. This workshop will give students the opportunity to have their résumés critiqued by professionals and hear about co-op and fulltime employment opportunities that may be available for them. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to meet professionals from top business organizations in a face to face setting and get valuable tips on creating a meaningful resume.

Event: KPMG Interviewing Skills Workshop

When: Thursday, October 15th at 4:00PM

The LeBow College of Business and Beta Alpha Psi will be hosting a workshop on Careers in Accounting led by Tom Konscics, a partner at KPMG.

Tom will be walking students through the interview process, including resume preparation, interview tips, and post-interview follow-up.  This workshop will provide students who will be going on co-op or seeking fulltime employment valuable information from one of the top accounting and consulting firms.

This workshop will be unlike any CPA workshop in the past.  Students will have the opportunity to use Becker’s simulation and get used to the look and feel of the website.

This simulation workshop will allow students to work hands on with Becker’s software. The information session on is Becker simulation class that is geared to expose students to the technology hurdle of taking the exam.  The functionality of various features have often stumbled students.  Each student is equipped with the use of a jump or flash drive, which will have a simulation that Becker’s instructor will walk them through. Students will receive “hands on experience” in reading requirements, answering the questions and functionally posting answers.  We walk through the research features with key word indicators to give a broader knowledge of which word combination will help achieve successful answers.  We also give students time to venture through the simulation on their own, so that they might ask questions on areas of concern.

Katy Fulson-Woytek ‘08, an Associate with Internal Audit Services at PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Past President of Drexel’s Beta Alpha Psi chapter, will discuss how Internal Audit adds value for clients.  She will also explain the benefits of starting your career in this exciting alternative to traditional assurance.  Refreshments will be served.

Liz Kolar, founder and representative of the Philadelphia CPA Review, will host a workshop that will help students interested in taking the CPA exam in the future do the following:

• Learn how the new IFRS standards will impact them.
• Take a personal assessment that will determine their eligibility to take the exam.
• Provide information about the Philadelphia CPA Review.

There will be FREE PIZZA, giveaways, and everyone who attends will receive a FREE PICPA student affiliate membership!

The Atlantic Coast Conference of Beta Alpha Psi, comprised of 53 Beta Alpha Psi chapters in 11 states, won the 2008 IRS National Participation Award for the greatest number of chapters participating.  Drexel University is proud to be one of the nine chapters that helped to bring this award to the Atlantic Coast region.

The Executive Board of the Delta Tau chapter would like to thank all of the volunteers that participated in VITA, and pass along the thanks of the regional leadership.  Along with enhancing our chapter and region, you have also helped over 50 taxpayers file their income taxes!  Great work!
