IS MIS for You?

Careers, Management Information Systems 1 Comment »

demystifying MISThere is a common misconception that MIS is all about programming.  Programming is just a tiny  part of the MIS curriculum.  There are many jobs in MIS that do not utilize programming at all.

A large portion of the MIS degree is centered on team work, leadership, project management, customer service, and underlying business processes.  In fact it’s a people-oriented field.

Management Information Systems (MIS) is the study of people, technology, and organizations.  It is commonly viewed as the interface between information technology and the rest of the organization.

I know you enjoy technology! Think about the hours you spend on your i-pod, Face book, tweeting etc. You have what it takes to major in MIS!!

All you need is an interest in technology and the desire to use technology to improve way business is conducted in an organization.

Information isn’t worth much if it doesn’t serve a purpose. MIS students learn how businesses use information to increase the efficiency and effectiveness the organization. Students also learn how to manage various information systems so that they best serve the needs of the organization and customers.

For further demystification of MIS, please email me Dr. Murugan Anandarajan at ma33@drexel.edu
